How to Unlock HP Laptop Windows 7 If Forgot Admin Password

Step 1: When you failed to log on your user account, a reset password link will be shown under the password box. Insert your password reset disk to the computer and then click the link to open Windows 7 password reset wizard.

If you have a Windows 7 install CD/DVD, now follow this guide to run Magnify tool on Windows 7 login screen and then reset Windows 7 admin password with command. After that, you can unlock your HP laptop Windows 7 with the new password. Here is how:

Step 1: Boot your locked HP laptop from the Windows 7 installation media. When you see the following screen, click “Next”.

Step 2: Click “Repair your computer”.

Step 3: Select the drive where your Windows 7 installation is and then click “Next”.

Step 4: In the “System Recovery Options” window, click “Command Prompt”.

Step 5: Now run the following commands to replace “magnify.exe” with “cmd.exe”.

1. Type “d:” and then press “Enter”. (If your Windows 7 was installed on C drive, just replace “d:” with “c” in this command.)

2. Type “cd windows” and then press “Enter”.

3. Type “cd system32” and then press “Enter”.

4. Type “copy magnify.exe magnify.exe.old” and then press “Enter”.

5. Type “copy cmd.exe magnify.exe” and then press “Enter”.

6. Type “Yes” and then press “Enter”.

Step 6: Close the CMD window, remove your Windows 7 installation disk and then click “Restart”.

Step 7: When Windows 7 login screen appears, click “Ease of Access” icon and then chexk “Make items on the screen larger (Magnifier)”. Click “OK”.

Step 8: Magnify window appears, type “net user” and then press “Enter”. All Windows 7 user accounts will be displayed.

Step 9: To reset admin account Aimee’s password, just type “net user Aimee Pass123” and then press “Enter”. The admin account’s password will be changed to “Pass123”. Now you can use the new password to unlock your HP laptop Windows 7.
