Window Server 2016 Change Password for Local Admin/User Account

Part One: You Have the Current Password.

If you just need to change your current password, it will be very easy and there are about three ways to done it.

Tip 1: Change Windows Server 2016 Local Admin Password with Ctrl+Alt+Delete.

1. Log on Windows server 2016 with your local admin account that you want to change its password. On the desktop, press “Ctrl+Alt+Del” keys.

2. It will give you several options, select “Change a password”.

3. If you want to change password for current user account, type in your current password. If you want to change other local user accounts’ password, type in the user name and its old password.

4. Scroll down, type in a new password and confirm it.

5. Click “Submit” button.

6. The new password will replace the old one, everything else of the user account will remain unchanged.

Tip 2: Change Windows Server 2016 Local Admin and User Password in Control Panel.

1. Login Windows Server 2016 with your local admin account. Click “Start” and open Control Panel.

2. Select “User Accounts” option.

3. In next window, open “User Accounts”.

4. In your current user account screen, click “Manage another user account”.

5. Choose a user account you would like to change.

6. Click “Change the password”.

7. Give your current password and type a new password, give a password hint or not. Click “Change password”.

Tip 3: Change Windows Server 2016 Local User Account’s Password in Windows Settings.

1. Click “Start” and open Windows settings.

2. Select “Accounts” option.

3. Select “Sign-in options” of your current user account.

4. In the password tab, click “Change” to change your account password.

5. Type your current password and go to next.

6. Type a new password twice, note that the new password must meet Windows server 2016 password policy and a password hint is required. Now go to next.

7. You have successfully changed your password. In next time you sign in, use your new password. Click “Finish” to close the wizard.

Part Two: You Have Lost/Forgotten Your Local Administrator Password.

How to change Windows server 2016 local administrator or other user accounts’ password if you forgot your administrator password? Or your password was expired? Here I will show you two fast ways to change your password easily and safely.

Tip 4: Change Your Lost Local Administrator Password with Windows Server 2016 Password Reset Disk.

With help of password reset disk, you are able to reset your forgotten local admin password without old password.

1. Start your Windows server 2016, when you log on your local administrator failed, click “OK”.

2. It will give you a link to reset the forgotten password with password reset disk. Insert your password reset disk and then click “Reset password”.

3. A “Password reset wizard” will be opened, click “Next”.

4. Select your “password key disk” from pull-down list and click “Next”.

5. Type a new password and type it again to confirm. Type a new password hint or not, click “Next”.

6. You have successfully reset the password for you admin account. Now click “Finish” to close the wizard and you will now be able to log on your Windows server 2016 with the new password. You can use the same password reset disk to reset the password in future, remember to keep it in a safe place.

Tip 5: Use Windows Password Rescuer to Change Any Local Admin/User Password in Windows Server 2016 and Any Other Windows System.

2. Select your USB drive from list and then click “Begin Burning” to start burning. The progress will be completed in half of minute.

3. Plug the burned USB disk into your Windows serve 2016 computer and boot the computer from USB: Power on your server computer, press F12 as soon as possible to open “Boot Options” and then select your USB drive.

4. The server computer will boot from your USB disk and then load Windows Password Rescuer Advanced. Windows server 2016 and all local user accounts will be shown in list. If you are resetting domain account’s password, only domain administrator and guest account will be shown in list. Select your "Windows server 2016".

6. Click “Administrator”.

7. Click “Reset Password”, once a confirm message appears, click “Yes”.

8. Local administrator password will be reset to blank.

9. Now click “Reboot”, once a confirm message appears, unplug your USB first and then click “Yes” to restart your server computer.

10. Once the welcome screen appears, press “Ctrl+Alt+Delete” to unlock the screen.

11. The computer will sign in administrator automatically without password.
